Tooro 2-2 SC Villa
SC Villa moved off the bottom of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table despite surrendering a win in the 2-2 draw away to Tooro United on Wednesday.
The 16-time league winners, however, remained the only winless team in the 16-team division after their fourth draw in eight games played so far.
Wednesday’s result will feel like two points lost rather one gained for Villa.
The Jogoos twice squandered the lead to increase the pressure on under fire coach Moses Basena.
Bashir Mutanda gave Villa a 13th minute lead after heading home a cross from captain Ambrose Kirya for his fourth goal of the season.
But Tooro, starting with three former Villa players in Musa Mukasa, Mahad Kakooza and Simon Sserunkuma fought back.
Allan Kayiwa scored on the turn to equalize for the hosts on the hour mark before Pius Wangi restored Villa’s advantage just three minutes later.
The former Vipers forward scored from a rebound after Tooro goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa spilled the ball from an earlier shot.
Left back Isa Mubiru then restored parity for Tooro, who have made a slightly better start than their opponents.
Tooro have now won once in eight games with six points, two better than Villa who are third from bottom.
