Traditional rivals Express, SC Villa share spoils

Thursday result

Express 1-1 SC Villa

Faltering traditional giants Express and SC Villa played out a 1-1 draw in the lone StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) match played on Thursday at Wankulukuku Stadium.

Disan Galiwango opened the scoring for coach George Ssimwogerere’s Express but Shafiki Bakaki levelled for Douglas Bamweyana’s Villa late on.

With both teams starting the match at the wrong end of the table, pride and a better season finish is all they had to play for.

Perhaps, Express also had the small matter of revenge following a 2-0 defeat to Villa in the first round.

And they duly drew first blood on 78 minutes, marauding left-back Galiwango picking up a pass from the midfield and driving past two Villa defenders before thumping home past stand-in goalkeeper Yusuf Wasswa.

Four minutes later, former Express defender Shafik Bakaki rose the highest to head in Habib Kavuma’s free-kick to ensure of a point.

The result leaves Villa just three points ahead of 13th placed Ndejje while Express dropped to 11th on 33 points.
