Uganda Cup prize money increases as Plascon becomes new partner

The 2021 Stanbic Uganda Cup will have more prize money after paint company Kansai Plascon joined the list of sponsors as the official paint partner.

Fufa and Kansai Plascon announced the development on Friday ahead of the kick off the competition early next month.

The company’s Managing Director Santosh Gumte said it’s a great honour to associate with a competition rich in history in Ugandan football.

“I am very honoured to have come on board,” he told the press. “We are always associated with Sports; we have always wanted to associate with Uganda Cup because of its rich history.”

“This is yet another opportunity for us to extend our commitment to sports and football in particular. Recently, we signed with Vipers and today, we come on board as the official paint partner of the Uganda Cup.”

The confirmed increase in this year’s prize money is from Sh132 to 166m and distributed as below;

Winner – Sh50m
Runners Up – Sh20m
Semis – 12m
Quarter – Sh6m
Round of 16 – Sh3m
Round of 32 – Sh1.5m

The 2021 competition kicks off on Monday April 4 with only 32 clubs involved from two divisions; the Uganda Premier League and the Fufa Big League.

FUFA 3rd Vice President Hon Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi who in in charge of the UPL welcomed the company who have also recently been added to Vipers’ sponsors.

“We are excited to see that the Uganda Cup continues to grow, this is good news for the game,” stated Nakiwala.

Last season’s competition was annulled following the COVID19 pandemic.

Express FC are the record winners of the competition whose winner represents Uganda at the Caf Confederation Cup.
