TOTAL 2018 CHAN CHAMPIONSHIP (Group B):

  • Zambia 3-1 Uganda
  • Namibia 1-0 Cote D’Ivoire

Uganda Cranes started their 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) campaign in the worst possible way, falling 3-1 to Zambia in Marrakech on Sunday night.

Lazarous Kambole, Augustine Mulenga and Fackson Kapumbu scored for the Chipolopolo while Derrick Nsibambi got the Cranes consolation in a rather spectacular fashion.

Kambole had given Zambia the lead in the 38th minute, finishing off a stunning counter attack against the run of play.

But with four minutes to the end of the first half, striker Nsibambi burried Milton Karisa’s cross on the volley, a goal for TV adverts to say the least.

However, Uganda failed to capitalize on the momentum after the break, allowing the Zambians to control proceedings.

The Chipolopolo indeed went on to score two more goals through Mulenga and Kapumbu in the 63rd and 71st minutes respectively, one of which caught Ugandan goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan off his line.

Zambia now lead Group B with three points and a two-goal margin, ahead of Namibia who registered a slim 1-0 win over Cote D’Ivoire.

Uganda, bottom of the group with no points, next face Namibia on Thursday, January 18.
