Cipla Quality Chemical Industries kept off 39 other corporate teams to win the trip to Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield, at Namboole on Saturday.
The medicine manufacturers edged Bukedde 1-0 in a hotly contested final to lift the 2016 Standard Chartered Cup and the priceless trip to one of the most successful British football clubs.
Simon Muwasira scored the game’s only goal, escaping his marker in the second half to hit in a long range strike past the Bukedde goalkeeper in the final of this 5-aside tournament.
Standard Chartered Bank are Liverpool shirt sponsors and organised this one-day event to also mingle with its clients as well as bring Liverpool closer to Ugandans.
Several fans including families spent the day at Namboole taking in the fun-filled event. But the real deal was the trip to the much coveted Anfield and Cipla QCI, who thrashed Airtel 3-0 in the semifinals, are well on their way there.
Bukedde beat last year’s Ugandan winners, Roofings Limited – who went on to lose the Nairobi regional leg – to make the final.
Unlike last year, this year Ugandan winners – Cipla QCI – are going straight to Anfield. They will meet several Liverpool legends while there.
The highlight of their three-night stay will be watching Liverpool versus Watford on May 7.
