Relegation battle results

Onduparaka 1-0 Blacks Power

Gaddafi 0-0 UPDF

The survival battle in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League could rage on until the final day after two drop candidates, UPDF and Blacks Power, failed to seize the opportunity to boost their chances of staying up on Friday.

Instead, Blacks Power lost 1-0 away to already relegated Onduparaka at the Green Light Stadium and UPDF drew goalless at Gaddafi. Hood Kakooza scored for Onduparaka on 43 minutes.

Who knows? The point at Kakindu Stadium might just prove the difference for UPDF at the end of the season.

But for now, the soldiers will rue a missed opportunity to establish some breathing space between them and Busoga United, who are not in action until next Tuesday.

It doesn’t even help UPDF that they are left with only one game while Busoga and Blacks Power each have two matches left to play.

For now, the point momentarily allowed UPDF to dislodge Busoga from 12th position.

The army men and Busoga have the same number of points at 27, with Blacks Power, who currently occupy the only remaining relegation spot, on 23.

Despite not sealing the deal early, all UPDF need is to beat relegated Onduparaka in their only remaining game and they are safe.

Victory at Bombo on matchday 30 will send the soldiers to 30 points, which would effectively relegate Blacks Power.

The most points Blacks Power can get at the end of the season if they won their two remaining games is 29.

Busoga United, too, could confirm their safety with victory at home to KCCA on Tuesday, although that would be quite an achievement given that the latter cannot afford any slip up as they are chasing for the title.

For Blacks Power, there are no second chances. Defeat at title chasing Villa next Tuesday will end their top flight football misery with a game to spare.
