CHAN 2020 Qualifiers (First Round):

1st Leg: Somalia Vs Uganda – 26th – 29th July 2019 (Mogadishu)

2nd Leg: Uganda Cranes Vs Somali – 1st – 2nd August 2019 (Kampala)

Four local coaches will be in charge of the Ugandan national team of home-based players when the Cranes take on Somalia in the first leg of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship, CHAN.

This comes after FUFA disbanded the entire technical staff that handled Uganda at AFCON 2019 finals in Egypt, where the Cranes were eliminated at the round of 16 stage by Senegal.

It also comes on the backdrop of Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre resigning his job to join Egyptian side Pyramids FC.

FUFA confirmed the appointment of the local coaches including the head, Abdallah Mubiru of Uganda Premier League side Police FC, and his assistant Livingstone Mbabazi of Onduparaka.

Legendary goalkeeper Sadiq Wassa will help in that department while former Cranes captain Geoffrey Massa is the new team manager.

The four lead Uganda against Somalia in Mogadishu in a fortnight’s time when the Cranes start their 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

The return leg will be in Kampala early August.

The permanent main stream national senior team job remains vacant, and according to FUFA president Moses Magogo, who addressed the press conference on Wednesday, they are receiving applications including those of junior sides.
