The Uganda Premier League (UPL) on Friday announced a new partnership with betting firm, Fortebet, which will see the bookmakers award the best players in the competition matches.
The sponsorship worth Shs100m, in cash, was unveiled to the media at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
“We can confirm receipt of Shs50m already in our (UPL) accounts,” the league chairman, Arinaitwe Rugyendo, said.
“This is a trial sponsorship as we look for a bigger package.”
The league board’s secretary, Peter KIbazo, clarified that the betting firm will take over the naming rights for the Man of the Match and the Player of the Month.
“The awards will be named Fortebet Man of the Match award and the monthly awards will be named Fortebet Player of the Month award,” he said.
“The Man of the Match will get a plaque and Shs100,000 in cash while the monthly winners will get a plaque and Shs300,000;” confirmed Kibazo.
Fortebet was represented by the managing director, Bernard Rahahembo, who reiterated that the company was ready to invest and develop local sports.
“We have been looking forward to supporting local football teams and talents and this is one of the ways,” he said.
“It’s just the beginning. More will come as we go along.”
Fortebet will also erect their advertisement boards on the different match venues.
