UPL star Lwaliwa heads Cranes past South Sudan

Uganda 1-0 South Sudan

Vipers SC Captain Halid Lwaliwa was the hero after he came off the bench to head Uganda Cranes past resilient South Sudan at St. Mary’s stadium, Kitende.

The defender replaced injured Ronald Mukiibi in the 60th minute and won the game with a header five minutes to time with Farouk Miya bagging the assist on a sunny afternoon.

Cranes coach Johnathan McKinstry offered starting debuts to England based Elvis Bwomono at right back while Vipers’ Abdul Karim Watambala also came in the 77th minute for Khalid Aucho.

The Cranes dominated but failed to create cut opportunities although Farouk Miya hit the base of the post and also forced a good save from the South Sudan goalie.

Former KCCA striker Derrick Nsibambi and Luwagga Kizito also had good attempts but it had to be Lwaliwa to win it and send Uganda to seven points from three games in Group B.

The two teams face off again on Monday November 16 at Nyayo stadium, Nairobi.
