The Uganda Premier League (UPL) have new broadcast partners starting June 1 this year after a new major player was announced on Thursday.

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (Fufa) and UPL have partnered with Sports Broadcasting in a deal that sees the former take over major commercial and media rights for the UPL, Fufa Big League and the Uganda Cup.

The four-year agreement starts from June 1, 2018 through July 31 and is valued at $3m (Shs10b), which will go to Fufa and clubs in cash, according to Sports Broadcasting managing director Dennis Mbidde.

The ceremony to unveil Sports Broadcasting, a new Ugandan company, was held at the Kampala Serena Hotel and was graced by the State Minister for Tourism Godfrey Kiwanda.

Azam TV, however, remain broadcast sponsors of the national league until their three-and-a-half-year $1.9m (Shs5.4b at the time) contract runs out on May 31 this year.

League board chairman Arinaitwe Rugyendo is enthusiastic about the new deal. “This goes to show that Ugandan football is on a growth trajectory,” he said.

“I attribute this to harmony, stability and integrity in the local game. I thank Sports Broadcasting Limited for being part of a steady progress currently shaking Ugandan Football.”

Fufa president Moses Magogo said “this is an important milestone in the history of Ugandan football” that will see Ugandans enjoying both live games of the 1st and 2nd Division Leagues not forgetting the Ugandan Cup.

Ugandans can look forward to watching all the 240 games of the Uganda Premier League from the comfort of their homes, work places and hangouts. Matches will be both live and delayed.
