URA beat Vipers to go top

URA 2-1 Vipers SC

Four-time Ugandan winners, URA, gave their title credentials more power after beating reigning StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) champions, Vipers, 2-1 at the Arena of Visions on Saturday.

Skipper Shafiq Kagimu and striker Steven Mukwala scored for coach Sam Ssimbwa’s side, who have now beaten KCCA and Vipers among other rivals. Caesar Manzoki headed in Vipers consolation.

The victory, the tax collectors 10th in 14 matches, sees them dethrone Vipers from the top spot.

URA now lead on 33 points, three ahead of Vipers and five above Express, who have a chance to close in when they face Kyetume later in the day.

Kagimu, who also scored in the 2-0 midweek win over Police, opened the scoring for URA seven minutes to half time.

Mukwala made it 2-0 on 59 minutes as they looked to run away with it.

Vipers, who saw off SC Villa 3-0 in the week, however, pulled one back but URA held on for all three points.
