Caf Confederation Cup

Saturday, October 23, second leg result

Al Masry (Egypt) 1-0 URA

Al Masry through 1-0 on aggregate

URA FC, the country’s – hitherto – only remaining continental representatives, have bowed out of the Caf Confederation Cup at the second preliminary round after falling to Egypt’s Al Masry 1-0 in Cairo on Saturday.

Islam Attiya’s first half goal was enough for the Egyptians to seal their spot in the next round.

URA eliminated Ethiopia’s Coffee en route to this stage, and travelled to Cairo after settling for a goalless draw at St Mary’s Kitende last weekend.

Unlike that affair at Kitende, URA manager Sam Timbe had more options this time round after his players shook off their Covid-19 infections.

Talisman Steven Mukwala, Cromwell Rwothomio and skipper Shafik Kagimu all started after missing the Kampala leg.

But they failed to master goals to effect the tide of the tie as Attiya put them to the sword.

URA’s elimination means Uganda is now without a representative ahead of the group stage of continental competitions.

Champions League representatives, Express, were eliminated at the first time of asking by Sudan’s Al Merreikh.
