URA 3-0 Mbarara City

NEC 0-0 Soltilo Bright Stars

URA thrashed Mbarara City 3-0 for their fifth win of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League season at the Mehta Ground on Friday.

Norman Namanya’s first half strike and two other second period goals by Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Moses Aliro handed the tax men all three points.

The win moves coach David Obua’s men one place up to sixth on 20 points from 13 matches.

Mbarara’s fourth defeat in 13 games has them five places below in 11th on 13 points.

But URA had to wait until the 35th minute to break the Ankole Lions’ resistance.

A mistake by Mbarara goalkeeper, Hakim Nsamba, saw the tax collectors seize the ball just around the 18-yard area.

The ball did exchange hands, not literally, in between before Namanya stole it again and planted a powerful shot to the right of Nsamba. 1-0.

URA continued probing and got the much needed two-goal cushion three minutes from full time when Ahimbisibwe headed home a cross from the left.

The third in the third minute of added time was identical to the second, another cross from Ibrahim Dada from the left headed home by Aliro.

In the day’s other match, NEC and Soltilo Bright Stars could only play out a goalless draw under the MTN Omondi Stadium floodlights.

NEC remain fifth on 21 points while Bright Stars are five places below on 15 points.
