  • URA 2-1 UPDF
  • Express 0-0 Kirinya Jinja SS

Fred Okot and Bokota Labama Kamana were on target for hosts URA as they overcame UPDF to win 2-1 and go top of the Azam Uganda Premier League.

Walter Rubankene scored the visitors consolation in the only match of day one that produced more than a single goal.

The hosts took the lead in the additional minute of the first half when Okot deflected Brian Majwega’s cross into the net.

Eight minutes after the break, the hosts went 2-0 up thanks to Congolese born former Rwanda international Labama Bokota Kamana who slotted home for his first of the season.

From then on, Moses Basena’s side threatened and got their reward in the 77th minute when Rubankene header hit the back of the net.

But despite efforts to rally and snatch a point, URA held on for maximum points that see them leapfrog SC Villa to go top at least for now.

The only dark side of the game was a life threatening injury to URA new signing Henry Kisekka who fall awkwardly and was rushed to hospital for medical attention.

At Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku, visitors Kirinya Jinja SS were dominant as they took a point off hosts Express.

Musa Esenu, Ibrahim Kayiwa and Isaac Ntege all had attempts saved by man of the match Godwin Buule while at the other end, Michael Birungi shot wide from close range and Daniel Mzee Sserunkuma forced a good save from Thomas Ikara.

Charles Ayiekoh’s side were also denied what looked like a clear penalty when Omar Hitimana appeared to push Esenu in the area.

The league returns on Friday with Vipers playing at home against Bul while other games will be on Saturday.
