URA 3-1 UPDF
URA opened their 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) campaign in style, taxing UPDF 3-1 at the Arena of Visions, Ndejje on Friday.
And they had to do it the hard way, coming from behind to a Simon Mbaziira first half goal to turn the game around.
Viane Ssekajugo and a Cromwell Rwothomio double after half time were enough to extinguish any fires lit by the soldiers.
This was coach Sam Timbe and URA’s first league game of the season as the Tax Collectors were initially busy on the continent.
They were eliminated by Egypt’s Al Masry in the second round of the Caf Confederation Cup last week.
And here they had to start on the right footing if they are to show early intent.
But they had to overcome an early setback after falling behind to Mbaziira’s goal in the added minute of the first half.
They emerged from the break hungrier and with purpose.
Their pressure soon told, Rwothomio equalising on 68 minutes.
Ssekajugo then put URA ahead for the first time in the game on 73 minutes before Rwothomio completed his brace with the hosts’ third 10 minutes later.
URA are ninth on three points having played only one game so far, while UPDF – whose only victory in their three matches was against Express, are seventh on four.
