Selected Friday results
SC Villa 1-0 Busoga United
Blacks Power 0-0 Arua Hill
Substitute John Katende was the difference as SC Villa overcame an otherwise dominant Busoga United 1-0 at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Friday.
The visitors, Busoga, commanded possession and created the most goal scoring opportunities but their wastefulness let them down.
Villa’s third victory in five matches keeps them second on the 15-team StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table but moves them to within a point of leaders BUL, who are on 11. Both have played the same number of games.
Busoga remain on three points and in 12th place having won just one game in five. They have scored only four times and conceded a whooping 13.
The boy – Katende, who was to go and win all three points for Villa, did not come on until the 65th minute when coach Jackson Magera threw him on for Goffin Oyirwoth.
Villa forward Ivan Bogere picked out Katende, who shrugged off a defender before driving home a powerful strike with five minutes left to play. It stayed that way.
Eslewhere, Arua Hill’s 100 percent winning sequence ended after they were held goalless by Blacks Power at Akii Bua Stadium in Lira.
