Express 0-1 SC Villa
SC Villa first went top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table on Thursday, when Fufa’s Competitions Disciplinary Panel (CDP) awarded them three points and as many goals after Proline did not turn up for the duo’s clash last Saturday.
They celebrated that with a 1-0 victory over traditional rivals Express the following day to stretch the lead at the top by three over Wakiso Giants to seven points.
Ambrose Kirya was the man of the moment, powerfully heading in Derrick Ndahiro’s cross on 73 minutes.
Villa enjoyed a lion’s share of ball possession but struggled to create clear cut chances until Kirya reported for duty late, yet well in time.
For Express, the third defeat in five games – which left them one place above relegation with four points – couldn’t have come against a worse opponent.
Not that they did not try. Frank Kalanda forced a save from Saidi Keni early in the game and Andrew Kiwanuka’s shot was parried was also parried away by the Villa goalkeeper.
But generally, the Red Eagles really offered little going forward, especially in the second half.
