SC Villa 2-0 Gaddafi
SC Villa kicked off their 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) season with victory as the Jogoos beat Gaddafi 2-0 at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Sunday.
A strike from Gift Fred and an own goal by Andrew Waiswa ensured the record 16-time league champions joined BUL, Maroons and KCCA on three points after one game.
The result was achieved against an experienced Gaddafi side that featured six former Villa players on the day.
But it wasn’t a quick start from Villa, who are using Express’ Wankulukuku as their home venue.
In fact, Villa goalkeeper Martin Elungat was the one called into quick early saves, with Johnson Odong and Mahad Kakooza also hitting the crossbar and post later on.
But it is the Blues that took the lead, Man of the Match, Gift, heading in Fred Agandu’s corner on 17 minutes.
Villa’s second came two minutes from full time when Waiswa accidentally scored into his own net after a melee caused by Ivan Sserubiri’s free kick.
