Villa ‘resurrect’ from Rabat to thrash SCVU

SC Villa 4-0 SCVU

SC Villa momentarily put behind their 7-0 annihilation at the hands of Fus Rabat to thrash Sports Club Victoria University (SCVU) 4-0 in the Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) at Nakivubo on Friday.

Hardly hurting wind in Morocco a week ago, they pounced at one of the local league’s punching bags almost effortlessly, Umar Kasumba helping himself to a double, Michael Nyungura directing into his own net and Martin Kizza grabbing the other.

This was also Villa’s first league win in six attempts having drawn all their previous five matches.

The result moves coach Ibrahim Kirya’s Villa one place up to 11th on 30 points. The Blues have, however, played four to five games fewer than Vipers, leaders KCCA and URA.

At Nakivubo, SCVU only had flashes of promise but it was Villa that showed more intent and purpose against a team that have now conceded 42 goals – the most in the league.

Villa went ahead on 17 minutes, Kasumba receiving a low ball just inside the penalty area to turn and slot past the on-rushing SCVU goalkeeper.

Kizza made it 2-0 on 29 minutes, latching onto a through ball to shield off his marker and planting it into the far-post.

The left-footed Kizza almost got his second midway the second half but it didn’t matter much who got it in the end.

In full flight, Kizza’s rasping cross from the left was agonizing turned into his own net by Nyungura for a 3-0 lead.

The Asuman Alishe-manned defence was not about to get leave of absence. They were soon all over the place as Villa continued attacking.

One of those moves saw Kizza’s effort rub off the crossbar and Kasumba twice miss from close range.

But he soon Kasumba completed his double on 81 minutes, burying into a low corner one of the moves to – even if only for a moment – sooth themselves out of that humiliating Caf Champions League defeat in Morocco. The Blues face Rabat in the return leg next week.
