Villa take plaudits from the weekend

Vipers Vipers SC 1 – 3 SC Villa

Onduparaka FC 0 – 0 Kirinya Jinja SSS FC

Bright Stars FC 0 – 0 KCCA FC

Tooro United FC 1 – 0 Paidha Black Angels SC

Police FC 1 – 0 Ndejje University FC

SC Villa made a short trip to St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday and picked all three points by thrashing hosts and national defending champions Vipers SC 3-1.

Charles Lwanga, Pius Wangi and Joseph Ssemujju scored Villa’s goals as the Jogoos ended Vipers unbeaten run this season on the Venoms 18th attempt. Tito Okello got Vipers consolation.

Despite the defeat, however, Vipers remain second on the 16-team StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) log with 37 points, four behind leaders KCCA, who drew goalless at Bright Stars.

That was a missed opportunity, there, for KCCA to significantly build onto their earlier lead in the standings, but looking at the result from Kitende, they will take the point.

Victory for Villa was only their third of the season. It moves them to 18 points but their position, two places above relegation, remains unchanged on the log.

Police and Tooro were the other winners from the weekend, the cops edging Ndejje University 1-0 and the latter beating Paidha Black Angels by the same scoreline.

Juma Balinya got Police’s goal and his 11th of the season from a penalty spot while Baker Buyala scored Tooro’s goal for the Fort Portal side to go sixth on the log with 27 points.
