Lweza 0-1 Vipers
Former league champions Vipers are back to winning terms thanks to a slim but important 1-0 victory over rivals Lweza.
The Venoms, who had gone two successive winless games, saw coach Abdallah Mubiru make six changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Express on Friday as James Alitho, Hassan Wasswa, Musa Esenu, Duncan Sseninde, Tony Odur and Aggrey Madoi all started.
But it wasn’t one of the changes that decided the game as Erisa Ssekisambu scored the lone goal that decided the fixture in the 31st minute.
The ex-SC Villa, URA and Express centre forward met Odur’s pass, made one touch inside the area and unleashed a low shot that caught Brian Bwete in Lweza’s goal by surprise to send the travelling fans into frenzy.
Karim Ndugwa missed a chance to equalise shortly after the break while Ddumba Saddala forced a match winning save from James Alitho.
At the other end, William Wadri, who made a comeback after months of injury, was denied by the post after doing all the good work including dribbling past Bwete.
The three points lift Vipers to third on the log with 12 points after seven games while Lweza are now 10th with four points fewer.
