Vipers SC 1-0 Onduparaka

Vipers SC fully capitalized on KCCA’s poor show on Friday to beat Onduparaka 1-0 two days later and stretch their lead at the summit by five points.

And the winner had to come from an unlikely source in this closely contested encounter at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Sunday as defender-cum-midfielder Geoffrey Wasswa struck the winner on 57 minutes.

This was also new coach Fred Kajoba’s first win since replacing Edward Golola a week ago. His first game in charge ended goalless away to Mbarara City.

Vipers, the three-time champions, now lead the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table on 46 points with 10 games left to play.

Reigning champions KCCA, who failed to overtake Vipers as they lost 2-1 to URA on Friday, remain second with five points behind Vipers. Onduparaka are third on 30 points.

The victory also means Vipers have now won the most matches in the league at 14, with KCCA a game fewer. The Venoms have also lost the fewest matches at two.

The league continues with Police hosting SC Villa on Monday, KCCA hosting Maroons on Tuesday and Tooro United welcoming Wakiso Giants the following day.
