Vipers beat Police to close gap

SUPL result, Wednesday

Police 1-2 Vipers SC

Vipers closed the gap at the top to two points after a convincing 3-1 victory over Police at StarTimes Stadium on Uganda’s Independence day on Wednesday.

Paul Willa, Halid Lwaliwa and Karim Watambala were on target for coach Edward Golola’s men as they moved fourth. Hood Kaweesa got the hosts consolation.

Actually, it is Kaweesa that broke the deadlock, putting Police ahead on 27 minutes but two late first half goals from Willa and Lwaliwa saw Vipers go into the break 2-1 up.

Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s Police pushed on but Vipers held their own, eventually scoring the third through Watambala 10 minutes from time to confirm the three points.

Vipers fourth win in six matches has them in fourth on 14 points, two behind surprise leaders Bul, who thrashed StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) champions KCCA 3-0 on Tuesday.

Police’s fourth defeat in seven matches kept them second from bottom on two points.
