Vipers SC 2-0 Blacks Power
StarTimes Uganda Premier League defending champions, Vipers SC, won their first match of the second round when they beat Blacks Power 2-0 on Saturday.
Karim Ndugwa and Martin Kizza both opened their accounts for Vipers in the Venoms first domestic league match played under the St Mary’s Stadium floodlights.
Vipers, who have played most of their football this year in the Caf Champions League, had drawn their two second round games.
This was their first win this round and moves them up to third on the table on 32 points, 11 behind leaders SC Villa and five adrift of KCCA.
The Venoms have played four matches fewer than Villa and one than KCCA.
For lowly Blacks Power, their misfortunes continued with their 11 defeat in 21 matches.
The Lira side remain second from bottom on 16 points.
Only bottom side, Onduparaka, are having a worse season.
Back at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, pressure was lifted off the home side early when Ndugwa took full advantage of Yunus Sentamu’s pass to score on nine minutes.
This was Ndugwa’s first goal for Vipers since his off-season move from BUL.
Another new arrival, Kizza, also scored his first for the club when he collected Bright Anukani’s ball before firing from outside the box for 2-0 on 44 minutes.
The hosts expertly managed the game through to earn Alex Isabirye his first league win as Vipers coach since his recent move there from BUL.
