Deus Bukenya equaliser against Volcan Club de Moroni on a hot Saturday afternoon in Moroni secured a first round spot for Vipers in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ugandan representatives in this year’s competition went into the game low on confidence after being held to a goalless stalemate at Namboole a week ago.

On Saturday, the fell down to an early strike from the hosts but in the 27th minute, Bukenya, scored from a free kick for a crucial away goal that saw the Venoms book a berth in the next round on away goals rule.

Vipers will now face Platinum Stars of South Africa who they host in the first leg on March 10 and play the return leg away in seven days.

The aggregate winner over two legs will advance to the pre-group phase of the competition where teams eliminated from the CAF Champions League will fight for slots in the group stages.

Later on Sunday, KCCA, the league champions will be eager to progress in the CAF Champions League well.

Carrying a 1-0 goal lead from the first leg, the Kasasiro take on Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto in Luanda.

Mike Mutebi’s charges will progress if they avoid any loss of a two goal margin and set up a date against Denis Onyango and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa.
