SC Villa 0-1 Vipers SC
Vipers stung table leaders SC Villa 1-0 to end the latter’s unbeaten home record in Masaka this season on Tuesday.
The victory saw them dislodge KCCA from second place as Vipers moved to 46 points, one better than the reigning league champions and three fewer than Villa with six and seven matches to go.
Vipers marksman Daniel Sserunkuma’s first half goal also ensured the visitors completed a double over the Jogoos.
Thousands of Villa fans had filled the Recreation Ground to capacity to support their team as they seek to win their first league title in 14 years.
The game started with tempers flaring from both sides but centre referee Mashood Ssali stood tall amidst adversity.
Vipers showed early intent with the front three of scorer Sserunkuma, Milton Karisa and Erisa ssekisambu troubling the Villa backline of Musa Mukasa, Henry Katongole, John Adriko and Bernard Muwanga.
They soon broke the deadlock on 30 minutes when Sserunkuma chested down before unleashing a ferocious drive for his 11th goal of the season.
Villa threatened on three occassions but Alex Kitata, Martin Kizza and Godfrey Lwesibawa should be faulted for failing to capitalise on the chances.
With the home unbeaten record fading away, Villa coach Wasswa Bbosa replaced Lwesibawa with Yubu Bogere and Abel Eturudde with Mahad Yaya Kakooza but the visitors held on.
But the visitors held on firm to claim all three points.
