Lweza 1-2 Vipers
Reigning league champions Vipers SC missed an opportunity to cut KCCA’s lead at the top to one point after falling 2-1 to Lweza FC in the Entebbe Road derby at Wankulukuku.
The visitors started brightly and should have gotten ahead early but goalie Charles Lukwago was keen to save from Erisa Ssekisambu and Brian Nkuubi inside the half hour.
Nevertheless, the hosts settled into the game after thirty minutes and they started to press with intent.
Vipers had returning custodian Ismail Watenga to thanks for a barren first half as he made two stunning saves; the first he parried a ball off the line from Fred Kalanzi header off Sula Bagala cross before stopping substitute Hassan Kikoyo moments later.
Kalanzi also missed a chance when he beat the offside trap but shot wide off the mark as Watenga advance.
Lweza started the second half from where they had left off with the technical bench replacing Kalanzi with Moses Ndaula.
Ndaula made an instant impact as he set up Bagala for the opener who slotted into an empty net in the 68th minute to send the capacity crowd in the home stands into frenzy.
The game seemed to be settled in the hosts’ favour but Erisa Ssekisambu had other ideas as he nodded home from Aggrey Madoi’s corner with three minutes left on the clock.
The goal made the champions to believe and the search for a winner gained momentum leaving the backline flat and they were punished instantly when right back Okot won the ball off Pius Wanji, passed it to Kikoyo who beat Madoi before passing to Bagala who spotted Ndaula in the area.
Ndaula calmly controlled with his left and instead of shooting on goal which appeared easy, slid the ball to Geoffrey Sserunkuma who made no mistake but score the winner.
Vipers remain second on the log on 31 points; four adrift of KCCA who have played one more game while Lweza are now 10th with 25 points.
