Vipers 1-0 Kirinya Jinja SS
Vipers took all three points to go joint top in a thoroughly entertaining match-up against Kirinya Jinja SS at Nakivubo stadium on Tuesday.
The former champions started brightly and got in front as early five minutes through lethal forward Tony Odur.
Bearing in mind how tight the visitors’ backline has been all season, Vipers’ Abdallah Mubiru named an attack minded line up that had forwards Odur, Erisa Ssekisambu and Musa Esenu all starting.
Aggrey Madoi whipped in a cross after stealing possession from James Otim and although it was missed by Esenu, Odur’s headed guided it into the roof of the net to send the home fans into rapture.
The hosts remained dominant in the first half forcing saves from goalie Joel Mutakubwa while Odur thought he had doubled his and Vipers’ tally on the day but his well taken header off Nicholas Wadada cross was ruled offside.
The game changed rhythm after recess as Alex Isabirye’s pressed for the equaliser and the hosts had goalie Ismail Watenga to thank for match winning saves.
The Ugandan international saved goal bound efforts from Anthony Mayanja and Joel Mudondo while at the other end, Brian Kakaire and Musa Esenu were denied chance to get on the score sheet.
The Uganda Cup winners have 19 points, same as KCCA but the two are separated by goals scored despite having a similar goal difference.
Kirinya are just a slot above the red zone on 10 points in as many league games.
