Vipers SC vs Simba, Buikwe, 4pm
Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) defending champions, Vipers SC, will be intent on closing in on pace setters, KCCA, as the competition enters the final bend of the season.
Vipers welcome relegation favourites, Simba, to Buikwe on Friday knowing that failure to pick maximum points will leave their title defence in jeopardy.
Manager Mike Mutebi’s KCCA top the log on 55 points, five more than Vipers’. But coach George Nsimbe’s Vipers have played one game less than KCCA.
Should Vipers beat Simba, who languish in third from bottom with just 25 points, and with chances of surviving as dim as a candle in the wind, they will close the gap on KCCA to just two points.
KCCA will then have to play Express and Sadolin Paints as their final games while Vipers will have to contend with URA and the Saints.
Vipers coach Nsimbe will hope striker Erisa Ssekisambu, who has shaken off a knock, gets them back to winning ways after their goalless draw with JMC Hippos last Friday.
“We need a performance better than the previous one to get something from this tie,” Ssekisambu told the club website.
“We come into this game full of confidence. Everyone in the team is aware of the importance of this game and we shall get the result needed.”
But Ssekisambu will have to do the talking on the pitch to be believed. The former Villa player has not scored in the last three games and will want to shake that monkey off his back quickly. Vipers won the first round 3-1.
