Vipers return to summit, Mahmood bangs hat-trick for Police

StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) defending champions, Vipers SC, and fellow title contenders, Express, continued their ping pong, with the former latest in taking their turn to go top.

The Venoms saw off Soltilo Bright Stars 2-0 on Tuesday at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Forwards Caeser Manzoki and Milton Karisa scored the goals as coach Fred Kajoba’s men went top on 27 points, two more than Express.

The Red Eagles, Express, had momentarily returned top after their 1-0 win over Kitara on Tuesday.

Bright Stars had lived with the Venoms until Manzoki took advantage of defenders Derrick Ngobi and Edwin Kiwanuka fumble to give Vipers a 64th minute lead.

Kajoba then introduced Muhammad Shaban, the striker setting up Karisa to seal victory in the fourth minute of added time.

In the other game of the day, Police kept up the pace with a 3-1 victory at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Hassan Mahmood was the unlikely star performer, the defender scoring a hat-trick.

Jude Ssemugabi had earlier given Mbarara a 27th minute lead.

Police moved one up to fourth on 23 points, while Mbarara are just outside the relegation places in 13th position with 10 points.
