Friday result
Vipers SC 2-0 Kirinya-Jinja
Milton Karisa grabbed a brace as Vipers won only their second match in the last eight attempts as they beat Kirinya-Jinja 2-0 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.
The victory moved coach Miguel da Costa’s men, who came into this on the back of a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of KCCA, two places up to fourth on 20 points after 12 matches.
Defeat for Kirinya-Jinja has the Eastern side seventh on 17 points.
Pressure had intensified on the Portuguese coach after the midweek’s defeat to KCCA had left Vipers in sixth place.
Indeed, Vipers last win, a 1-0 away win at Mbarara City, had come on November 3 and failure to pick maximum points at home to Kirinya would have hardly helped matters for the two-time Azam Uganda Premier League (AUPL) champions.
But like promised midweek, his players responded in the best way possible, Karisa scoring on 25 and 71 minutes to get Vipers out of the hole and help himself to five goals overall, just two behind league leading scorer Hood Kaweesa of Police.
Vipers are next in action on Tuesday at home to URA while Kirinya host Maroons in Jinja.
