Vipers run riot as KCCA keep close watch

Wednesday UPL Results

Police 0-1 KCCA

Mbarara City 1-0 BUL

Vipers 5-0 Maroons

StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) leaders, Vipers SC, responded to their defeat in the previous game in the best way possible, sweeping aside Maroons 5-0 at St Mary’s Kitende on Wednesday.

Challengers and defending champions, KCCA, also ensured that kept in touching distance thanks to a 1-0 win over Police. Herbert Achai scored the goal.

The 5-0 is Vipers biggest win of the season, which ensures the Venoms maintain a four-point advantage at the summit on 53 with six games left.

Coach Fred Kajoba’s men, who were coming off a 3-1 thrashing at the hands of URA, got the first goal in the opening half stoppage time after Milton Karisa had set up Allan Kayiwa, the striker finishing off a fast break.

Brian Nkuubi doubled the advantage with a diving header from an Innocent Wafula cross five minutes after the break before setting up Karisa for the first goal of his second spell at the club.

Substitute Paul Mucureezi then scored another header, this time off an Aziz Kayondo cross before Abraham Ndugwa added the fifth.

Elsewhere, a Hillary Mukundane freekick helped Mbarara to a 1-0 win over Bul.

Victory for Mbarara leaves both sides on 33 points in seventh and sixth positions respectively.
