Vipers SC assume table leadership

Vipers 1-0 Nyamityobora

Champions Vipers went top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table following a narrow 1-0 victory over newcomers Nyamityobora at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

Marksman Daniel Sserunkuma was the match winner this time, scoring his first goal of the season on 15 minutes to record Vipers third successive victory of the campaign.

The Venoms move to nine points, two ahead of Bright Stars, who saw off Maroons 2-0 at Kavumba. This was Nyamityobora’s third successive defeat and leaves them second from bottom with no points.

Vipers started the campaign with a last gasp Davis Kasirye winner in the 1-0 victory over Ndejje University at Kitende before gritting out another three points in the 2-1 away win at Maroons.

Kasirye (two), Moses Waiswa and Sserunkuma have now scored Vipers all four goals while coach Javier Martinez boys’ defence have leaked just once.

Vipers can stretch their lead on Wednesday when they travel to Namboole to face SC Villa while Nyamityobora continue the search for their first win at home to Mbarara City.
