Second leg (14-16th October)
TP Mazembe vs Vipers SC
Ugandan representatives in the CAF Champions League, Vipers SC, will take on DR Congo champions TP Mazembe in the second round next month.
This after the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) champions completion of the first round job, Vipers 1-0 win over Central African Republic’s Olympic Real de Bangui sealing a 4-0 aggregate victory.
The win at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday also confirmed Vipers only second time of advancing from the initial stage in five attempts both in this competition and Confederation Cup.
Striker Yunus Sentamu, who missed the first leg, which was played in Congo Brazzaville last weekend, through illness scored the only goal at Kitende.
The striker latched onto Bright Anukani’s ball to calmly slot past the visitors goalkeeper in the 18th minute.
Vipers coach Roberto Oliveira ‘Robertinho’ said this was not an easy encounter but that he understands the demands at the club.
“I thank my players and everyone at the club because it was not easy,” he said.
“Vipers is a big club and you need to win everytime. It is not important to just play well but not win.”
Vipers will host TP Mazembe for the first leg at St Mary’s on the weekend of October 7-9 before travelling to DRC for the reverse fixture a week later.
