Vipers can finally play all their home matches at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende after Caf gave them an all-clear this week. The endorsement comes almost a month after Caf gave the same seal of approval to KCCA to host their Caf Champions League games at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.

Vipers will now host South Africa’s Platinum Stars in the Caf Confederation Cup from St Mary’s next weekend.

Fufa organizing committee Chairman Bernard Ogwel says confirmation was delivered on Thursday by Caf competitions department boss Ahmed Harraz after they toured and made final recommendations with Caf inspector Nicholas Musonye two days earlier.

“There was great improvement at the stadium since the first visit,” Ogwel said.

The VIP section, sanitation, public address system and lighting facilities are all in place now.

I congratulate Vipers and Lawrence Mulindwa (club director) upon the big achievement.

St Mary’s is estimated to host about 15,000 people. Vipers first match at the facility could be on Monday when Vipers they host Soana in a round of 16 tie.
