Vipers maintained their lead at the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) summit after a 4-0 victory over visiting Busoga United at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Tuesday.

National U20 left back Aziz Kayondo, brace hero Yunus Sentamu, and substitute Milton Karisa scored the goals as coach Fred Kajoba’s men moved to 39 points after 17 matches.

Kayondo gave the hosts the lead on 25 minutes when his likely cross swung into the net past goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa.

The hosts doubled their advantage on 47 minutes, Sentamu the scorer this time.

Sentamu reacted fastest to Karim Watambala’s through ball to beat Omedwa, before the forward completed his brace on 64 minutes from the penalty spot.

Karisa, who replaced Sentamu earlier on, wrapped up Busoga’s thrashing with the fourth with five minutes to play.

Meanwhile, there was late drama at Kitende when Vipers goalkeeper Fabian Mutombora was shown a red card after the final whistle for punching his teammate and goal scorer Kayondo.

It was not immediately clear as to why the pinch was thrown.

Busoga, who also lost to the same side in the Uganda Cup last week, stay 12th on 17 points after only four wins and a massive eight defeats.

Elsewhere, Robert Mukongotya’s second half goal was cancelled out by Raymond Walugembe’s leveler with six minutes to play as Kyetume salvaged a point at Bul.

Bul are ninth with 21 points while Kyetume are third from bottom on 13.

In Mbarara, the hosts won it late – Derrick Onyai scoring the winner in the 2-1 victory over Myda.

Bassi Mark had earlier cancelled out Solomon Okwalinga’s opener for Mbarara City.

Mbarara’s fourth victory in 17 matches has them in 11th place on 18 points, while stay second from bottom on seven.
