Vipers thrash Maroons for first season win

Friday result

Vipers SC 3-0 Maroons

StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) defending champions, Vipers SC, finally registered their first win of the season on Friday after two failed attempts.

The Venoms dispatched Maroons 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende allay early anxiety after Vipers drew and lost their two opening games.

Skipper Milton Karisa scored the hosts first goal of the season in the first half before a quick double from striker Yunus Sentamu after the break.

The win moves Vipers two places up to 12th place on four points from three matches.

This was Maroons second defeat in six games, seeing the Prison Warders drop to fifth on eight points.

Maroons had come into this in high spirits following their 1-0 victory over KCCA last week, while Vipers had lost to the Kasasiro Boys seven days earlier.

The Venoms had to react and Karisa made sure of that at Kitende.

He opened the scoring on 20 minutes when he half-volleyed home a rebound after Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale had punched back into play Bright Anukani’s free kick.

Moments later, Vipers goalkeeper Alfred Macumu Mudekereza made a good save to deny Fredrick Kigozi’s stinging shot.

Sentamu then doubled the hosts lead on 65 minutes with a clever flick off a quality Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye delivery.

The striker scored his second within seconds, brilliantly controlling a pass from Karisa before sidestepping his last man and beating Tamale to the goalkeeper’s low left. Three-nil it ended.
