Vipers, URA win as Villa fall

Defending champions Vipers SC returned to the summit of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) following their 3-1 victory away at Onduparaka on Saturday.

Ibrahim Orit, Caesar Manzoki and Paul Mucurezi scored the goals for Vipers’ seventh win, moving the Venoms to 24 points, two more than Express.

Vipers arrived in Arua having not won a league game in five visits to Onduparaka. It was a different story at the end of the day.

They went ahead after 26 minutes, Orit heading in a Disan Galiwango corner for a 1-0 half time lead.

Vipers SC coach Fred Kajoba replaced Shaban Muhammad with Mucureezi at half time.

Mucureezi’s impact was immediately felt after his repulsed drive was forced in by Manzoki.

Mucureezi himself then had his name on the score sheet, prodding home the third.

Onduparaka pulled a goal back through Kabon Living’s penalty in injury time but it was too late to rescue anything from the game.

In Bombo, SC Villa – playing host to the stadium landlords, suffered a 1-0 defeat to UPDF, thanks to Ezekiel Katende’s 73rd minute goal.

Elsewhere, URA moved one up to third on 21 points following 1-0 win over Busoga United. Moses Sseruyidde scored the all-important goal on 49 minutes.

At Kavumba, Bright Stars and Police played our a 2-2 draw for the visitors to drop one down to fourth on 20 points after 10 games.

Sulaiman Ssekamatte put Bright Stars ahead on 13 minutes but Brian Muluuli levelled after the half hour.

Ssekamatte completed his brace be restoring Bright Stars lead on the hour but Muluuli also sealed his double with the leveller.
