Vipers win to keep up with KCCA, stalemate in URA-Villa

StarTimes Uganda Premier League reigning champions Vipers SC came from a goal down on Saturday to beat BUL 2-1 and keep up pace with KCCA.

The latter had on Friday opened a five-point gap at the top following their 2-1 win over Busoga.

Skipper Milton Karisa and Cromwell Rwothomio scored for Vipers while Karim Ndugwa netted the visitors consolation.

Vipers eighth win in 13 matches brought the Venoms to within two points of leaders KCCA’s 29.

BUL, who were losing their third match in 13, stay third on 24 points.

Vipers had to shake off an early scare after going behind on 17 minutes through Ndugwa’s goal.

But coach Roberto Oliveira’s Venoms levelled matters moments later before Rwothomio scored the winner and his first in Vipers colours since joining from URA during the off-season.

Talking of URA, the Tax Collectors surrendered their lead in the second half to settle for a point in the 1-1 draw with visiting SC Villa at Nakisunga Saza Ground in Mukono.

Ibrahim Dada shot URA ahead on 34 minutes via a free kick but Ivan Sserubiri 63rd minute penalty ensured the Jogoos went home with a point.

Villa stay fifth on 24 points while URA are six places and 10 points below.

In the West Nile at the Barifa Stadium, hosts Arua Hill edged Soltilo Bright Stars 2-1 to consolidate their sixth place on 22 points

Innocent Media gave the home side a four-minute lead after being teed on by Pilsner Man of the Match Toha Rashid.

However, Bright Stars levelled from the spot kick, Nelson Senkatuka burying thag one on 27 minutes.

But there was no denying Arua Hill maximum points, the home side winning a penalty of their own and Wahab Gadafi scoring it five minutes from full time.
