Wakiso Giants 3-1 Mbarara City
UPDF 1-1 Arua Hill
Wakiso Giants were in unforgiving mood on Wednesday as they thrashed visiting Mbarara City 3-1 at Wakisha Stadium.
Striker Sam Ssenyonjo headed the home side ahead off a Joshua Lubwama corner in the 20th minute but Mbarara City equalized through Charles Sempa penalty after the half time break.
Ssenyonjo also had an opportunity to get Wakiso’s second in between but missed from 12 yards.
But it was not long before the hosts were ahead again in this StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) encounter.
They had turned on the heat and in 73rd minute, another header – this time from youthful midfielder Titus Ssematimba -had the Purple Sharks 2-1 up.
Substitute Ivan Bogere then sealed the win on 83 minutes with a long lob that left Ankole Lions goalkeeper Martin Elungat stranded.
Victory has Wakiso Giants in seventh on 30 points after 20 matches while Mbarara City are third from bottom with 17 points from as many matches.
At Bombo Military Barracks, hosts UPDF could only manage a 1-all draw against coach Livingston Mbabazi’s Arua Hill.
Ibrahim Wamaana put the home side ahead on the stroke of half time but Steven Kabuye rescued a point for Arua Hill three minutes from full time.
