Wakiso go top despite draw at Stars

Wednesday result

Bright Stars 1-1 Wakiso Giants

Wakiso Giants went top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) table despite being held to a one-all draw by Bright Stars at Betway Muteesa II Stadium on Wednesday.

Tom Masiko and Ronald Nkonge scored for either side. The result moved the Purple Sharks to seven points from four games while Bright Stars stay second from bottom after getting their second point of the campaign.

But Bright Stars will be grateful for the point after a slow start. They went behind in the third minute when Sula Ssebunza fouled Hassan Ssenyonjo in the box. Tom Masiko scored the resultant penalty.

Wakiso should have stretched the lead when the lively Ssenyonjo once again beat Sam Ssekito but Geoffrey Sserunkuma headed his cross wide.

Bright Stars had an improved second half in which Methodius Jungu blazed over his effort after the ball got stuck in a pool of water on the soaked Wankulukuku surface.

His replacement Ronald Nkonge fired in the equalizer with his first touch after Janjali had struck the crossbar.
