Police 0-1 Wakiso Giants
Wakiso Giants picked their first win of the 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) season a day after their hitherto coach Douglas Bamweyana threw in the towel.
The Purple Sharks edged early strugglers Police 1-0 at the Cops home ground, the MTN Omondi Stadium on Tuesday.
Strugglers themselves after losing their two opening matches with a combined 8-0 scoreline, Wakiso Giants had Edward Saturo’s 3th minute goal to thank for their first win as stand-in coach Alex Gitta commanded from the touchline.
Earlier, Wakiso survived after goalkeeper Derrick Emukule mis-controlled Simon Namwanja’s back-pass, watching on helplessly as the ball sailed through his legs only to go wide.
Striker Brian Muluuli should have scored for Police but miscued with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
It is the visitors who instead took the lead, Saturo prodding the ball home after Police goalkeeper Tom Ikara had saved his initial header.
Although the Cops threatened for an equalizer with more incisiveness in attack, they could not master clear-cut chances for the rest of the half.
Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s Police pushed for an equaliser but the Purple Sharks held on for all three points.
Police have now lost all their opening three games and lie bottom of the 16-team league table. They are next in action at home to Express on November 2. Wakiso now lie 11th. They next host Busoga United on October 30.
