Express 2-1 Lweza
Express got off their Azam Uganda Premier League (UPL) campaign to a winning thanks to new signing Herman Wasswa’s brace in the 2-1 victory over Lweza at Wankulukuku on Friday.
The result sends the Red Eagles joint top of the table with KCCA on three points apiece. KCCA also edged JMC Hippos with the same scoreline at Lugogo.
Express went into this Wankulukuku derby with fairly experienced players having shipped in at least three each from KCCA and Vipers.
Wasswa, Emmanuel Opio and Isaac Sserunkuma from KCCA and the Vipers’ trio of John Semazzi, Mike Mutyaba and Allan Kyambadde are some of the practised party coaches Alex Gitta and Wasswa Bbosa have brought in.
And it was Wasswa, the former KCCA striker, who had to decide the game. But that was after the hosts went behind through a fifth minute goal from Lweza’s own signing from SC Villa, Karim Ndugwa.
Wasswa responded by levelling matters five minutes later before reaffirming that he is one of the most prolific scorers in the league with the winner on 26 minutes.
The six-time league champions, Express’, next game is on Tuesday against Proline, who kicked off their season with a goalless draw at Bul.
