Sunday Cecafa result
Uganda 1-1 Ethiopia
Uganda coach Moses Basena claims Ethiopia had fresher legs for their final group match in Kakamega on Sunday.
The Cranes huffed and puffed before Derrick Nsibambi struck at the death for a 1-1 draw and drag Uganda to the semifinals of the 2017 Cecafa Cup.
“We played against a fresher team,” said Basena, “They had two days to recover yet we had only one day to rest.”
St George star Abdela Abubaker San had put Ethiopians ahead on 21 minutes with a rebounding shot that left Ugandan goalkeeper Ismail Watenga for perplexed.
Basena also has the headache of deciding who replaces Isaac Muleme and Timothy Awany after the defenders were sent off in this hotly contested match.
“We have learned a lot from being in good and bad times,” said Basena, “We hope to use the 21 players available for selection to win the semifinal on Thursday.” Uganda, the record winners are likely to face hosts Kenya in the semis.
