Chan 2018, Monday, January 22
Uganda Vs Ivory Coast, 10:00pm
Uganda play their final match of the 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan) against Ivory Coast on Monday night looking to end on a positive note.
And after losing to Zambia and Namibia their opening two group games in Marrakech, Morocco, Cranes new coach Sébastien Desabre believes now is the time to forget the pains of the past and build onwards, upwards.
“I feel sad for the fans here and the ones at home and the nation at large,” the 41-year-old said ahead of the clash against Ivory Coast.
“However my job begins now. This is the start of my term as Uganda Cranes coach and I will continue monitoring the players we have used at Chan as well as the watch the rest of the Uganda Premier League (UPL).”
Sébastien was disappointed that the pattern of the Zambia game was replicated in the second group match with Uganda, where the Cranes started brightly but fizzled out towards the end.
“I have seen the challenge at hand and have a fair understanding of the task ahead. But the hard work begins right now.”
In all four Chan tournaments Uganda have featured in and played a combined 11 games, they have registered only one victory – achieved at the South Africa 2014 edition when the Cranes beat Burkina Faso 2-1 thanks to a Yunus Ssentamu brace.
