The Mamelodi Sundowns star and former Cranes captain has joined Uganda’s technical team to support goalkeeping coaches ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which runs from August 2–30 in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

His stint is temporary and will only last during his offseason break. Onyango’s experience is seen as key to Uganda’s push to break their CHAN group stage curse after six early exits.

Goalkeepers Joel Mutakubwa, Crispas Kusiima, Denis Kiggundu, and Hannington Sebwalunyo are in camp under his guidance.

Meanwhile, coaches Morley Byekwaso and Fred Muhumuza have trimmed the squad from 41 to 29.
