Police came out top of a highly contested encounter at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo, edging Kirinya-Jinja 3-2 in Sunday’s only Uganda Premier League match.
Johnson Odongo’s brace and
Ashraf Mugume’s winner were enough to triumph over a spirited Kirinya.
Dan Ssewava and Faizal Muwawu netted for coach Charles Ayiekoh’s Kirinya but the effort was just not enough.
Odongo gave Police an early lead on four minutes before doubling the advantage and completing his brace eight minutes from half time.
Ssewava pulled one back for Kirinya on 66 minutes before Muwawu levelled seven minutes later to set up a pulsating end to the encounter.
But with the clock ticking down, Mugume showed up, grabbing the winner three minutes from time.
Victory lifts Police three places up to sixth on 20 points while Kirinya drop three to 10th with 18.
